Hi!
My name is René, and I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Filmmaking. I am based in New Jersey and passionate about telling underrepresented stories that are rich with emotion and symbolism. I create thought-provoking work from various genres that introduce new perspectives to the conversation. I primarily work as a Director, 1st Assistant Director, Producer, and Colorist, but I also enjoy photography. I plan to start a production company in an effort to build communities through storytelling.
My Story
The first book that made me realize creating was my passion was The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. The novel left me in tears by the end and made me understand the profound emotional impact a story can have on someone. From that point on, I fell in love with writing stories because there were no limitations to what I could create. The sense of freedom I experienced while writing was similar to the feeling I got from photography. I received my first camera at the age of 13 and started taking photos of nearly everything.
My passion for writing grew even further when I began writing screenplays in high school. By the time I entered college, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the creative field, so I majored in creative writing during my first year. During that time, I discovered that I could not only write stories but also bring them to life. This realization led me to change my field of study to filmmaking. I aspire to create underrepresented stories that evoke the same feelings of joy and freedom I felt while reading The One and Only Ivan.
